Becky Morley is 13 and lives with her parents on their farm in Cornwall. Becky lives a really comfortable lifestyle. She has her own horse and rides regularly in the woods around the farm where she lives. She has a dad any girl would be proud of. Her dad is her hero and can do no wrong in her eyes. He spends his days in the fields and in the dairy with the cattle, the sheep and the pigs that the family rear. In fact, if Becky were to complain about anything in her life it would be her mother, who moaned at her a lot and was always pushing her to try harder and better herself.
Becky has a real love of animals living on a farm is a great place to be. She has her own animals to take care of. Not only does she feed and clean them out, she also helps with the lambing of her flock and when her favorite sheep gives birth to twin lambs she is thrilled, especially as one of them...'Little Josh' needs hand rearing. Life is wonderful for Becky, wandering around the farm with Little Josh at her feet she wonders if life can get much better. When foot and mouth breaks out on a pig farm, hundreds of miles from where they live, Becky's parents are seriously worried. Becky's life however goes on as normal.
When the disease is found on a neighbouring farm Becky is forced to face the nightmare that is creeping around the corner. Becky can only hope and pray that this terrible tragedy will pass her and her family by. She watches as her neighbours herd is slaughtered and then burned. She clings to the animals that mean so much to her and hopes for a miracle.
This Book Was amazing and it was really moving. It is in the form of a diary written by the character Becky, although she is only a child She tells the story in a pure and honest way, taking the hand of the reader and sharing with them the delights of the farm and the misery of the foot and mouth outbreak.
